Taiwan & the Yeliu Geo Park

Taiwan: What a surprise, Taiwan is a really great place, a bit like China in many ways, the language problem is back but there are more signs in English so we can at least read the station names and road names, the buses also have destination names in English ( sometimes ) and the bus numbers are not just a bunch of squiggles.. Taipei is a typical sprawl of a city and has a great MRT so getting about is easy...ish !The local Taiwanese are really great, very helpful.

Information is also plentiful and there is loads to do from here. We are staying in another Youth Hostel and its a typical student hang out, most seem to do little more than watch the TV and sleep till the afternoon and watch more TV. Not sure we fitted in that well as we were out doing stuff while most were still asleep.

Yelui Geo park has been on our hit list since we did some surfing a while back, so we took the train to Danshiu and a bus along the North coast road to Yelui. The Geo park is well sign posted so we found it with little trouble. The park Itself is a little too well manicured but it is spectacular, the Geological formations are like nothing we have ever seen and the 2 hour journey to get there was well worth it. The temperatures are again really hot so walking around does have its uncomfortable aspect ! A good start to our visit to Taiwan.
