A brief lunch stop in the 3 little gorges saw us sample yet more local delights, Roast sparrow we were informed, though the legs looked a bit too meaty, so we think it was possibly Magpie or something. To see these whole small birds on a stick and being devoured by the masses didn't feel quite right but Linda ate one anyway... though she insists it was a chicken leg, you decide from the photo !
After lunch we continued down the 3 little gorges in much smaller boats which really made the gorges come to life, just 20 people in each boat with towering gorge walls only feet away, pity it rained. Rudi ( he's Welsh, the reason why I mention this now will be obvious when you see his picture later in the blog ) got into the swing of things and dressed up in traditional boating attire though we think it looked more like an ancient Welsh warrior uniform.
Later we transferred back to our big boat for more Yangtze cruising, That evening we somehow got into a drinking fest with some of the locals, I think we must have toasted everything that could be toasted. Great fun.
Next morning and day 4 of our cruise we set off on smaller " Dragon Boats" to explore a small Gorge on foot and see a local culture programme. The small gorge was superb, the culture programme lost me entirely. It was then back to the big boat for the last 3 hours before we disembarked near the City of Yichang.
Das Boot
The first of the Yangtze gorges appear.
The weather was again poor, partly due to the pollution.
The pollution caused by the local cities and river barges can easily obliterate the views.
Camera trickery on the 3 gorges.
Catherine and Rudi, great company and mean dice players..
Linda at Lunchtime !!
Any clues as to what bird it is ? The one on the stick I mean.
More small birds on sticks... and roast spuds :-)
KFC Chinese river fare style.
First bite its head off then attack the main meat..
More food stalls.
That's the last of these..
Back on Board. Rudi & Catherine. ( this is the transfer boat ) .
3 little Gorges.
You can see that this place won't stay tranquil for long, soon there's going to be a walkway.
